Behind the Collab: Hikerkind x Targhee

We love when the trail leads us to kindred souls who are empowering more people to get outside.

Like Hikerkind founders Chelsea Rizzo and Allison Levy. The NYC fashion stylists met while working on a photoshoot for Gucci and bonded over their mutual love of hiking and the outdoors. While quarantined during the pandemic, they became increasingly frustrated with the lack of functional and stylish women’s outdoor apparel and decided to do something about it. In 2021, they launched Hikerkind to redefine the outdoor experience for women through community and versatile, durable, purpose-built products.

Now they are launching their very first hiking boot – with us! The women's Targhee IV x Hikerkind hiking boot unites Consciously Created comfort and durability with Hikerkind’s ethos of utility, luxury, and simplicity. Read on to learn more in this Q&A with Chelsea:

What is Hikerkind all about?

"At its core, Hikerkind is about building a more welcoming and accessible outdoor community, one stitch at a time. Every piece of Hikerkind apparel is designed with women in mind – functional enough for the trail yet stylish enough for everyday wear. Through thoughtfully designed, award-winning products and inclusive multi-city Hike Club programming, Hikerkind empowers women to get outside and connect with one another, fostering exploration of the outdoors with confidence and style."

Why did you pick the KEEN Targhee IV as your first hiking shoe?

"We believe that getting outside starts with building the right systems – from the layers on your back to the shoes on your feet. Hikerkind Style Systems were created to take the guesswork out of women’s outdoor apparel and offer versatile, trail-ready pieces that inspire confidence, perform effortlessly, and reflect your personal style. Like your sleep system, cook system, or packing system, your style system should be intentional – balancing form and function to make every hike feel seamless. But no system is complete without the right footwear, which is why we’re thrilled to partner with KEEN to launch our very first hiking shoe."

"The result is a durable, versatile boot that seamlessly fits into your Hikerkind wardrobe and keeps up with every trail you tackle."

"The Targhee IV stood out as the perfect fit. Known for its durability, out-of-the-box comfort, and roomy toe box, it's built for long days on trail – just like Hikerkind gear. With KEEN.FUSION technology enhancing its ruggedness, it’s a boot that stands up to the elements and every mile ahead."

What was the inspiration for your design?

"Hikerkind’s color palettes are always inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of America’s most iconic long-distance trails: the Appalachian Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Mountain-to-Sea Trail. We infused the Targhee with a rich, monochromatic palette that explores varying depths of brown – from warm earth tones to deep, grounding hues. Each color was chosen to feel at home both in nature and in your everyday wardrobe. We also played with textures and materials to add a refined, sophisticated edge. The result is a durable, versatile boot that seamlessly fits into your Hikerkind wardrobe and keeps up with every trail you tackle."

What are some of your favorite Hikerkind styles to pair with the Targhee IV?

"Honestly, the Hikerkind Targhee IV goes with everything! That was a key consideration when choosing the colors and textures. We wanted getting equipped for the outdoors to be seamless and easy. For a monochromatic look, pair your Hikerkind Targhee IV with the Hikerkind Venture Camp Shirt and Skort in Hellebore.

What trail(s) are you most excited to hike this spring?

"In May, Hikerkind’s Hike Club re-starts in over 16 cities! I’m excited for our Hikerkind Ambassadors to be trekking in all different types of terrain in their new Hikerkind Targhee IV hikers. We’ll be leading the New York chapter on a route in Harriman State Park. A lovely outdoor area accessible by the NJ Transit line."

Be sure to grab this limited-edition style while you can, and we hope to see you out on the trail in them!
